Parts of Speech

Definition: Parts of Speech are the words that are divided into different kinds or classes. It is divided into eight main groups.

I. Verb

Definition: Verb is used to express an action or existence. There are eight kinds of Verb.

Definition: Noun is a word used for naming some person, place, animal, or thing. There are five kinds of Noun.

Definition: Adjective is used to modify noun or pronoun. There are nine kinds of Adjective.

Definition: Adverb is used to modify a verb, an adjective and an adverb. There are nine kinds of Adverb.

Definition: Pronoun is used to replace a noun. There are nine kinds of Pronoun.

  1. Personal Pronoun (per.pron)
  2. Possessive Pronoun (pos.pron)
  3. Reflexive and Emphasising Pronoun (ref/emp.pron)
  4. Demonstrative Pronoun (dem.pron)
  5. Interrogative Pronoun (int.pron)
  6. Relative Pronoun (rel.pron)
  7. Indefinite Pronoun (ind.pron)
  8. Distributive Pronoun (dis.pron)
  9. Reciprocal Pronoun (rec.pron)

VI. Preposition

Definition: Preposition is a word used with noun or pronoun generally being placed in front of them and shows relationship of this word to some other parts of the sentence. There are four kinds of Preposition.

    1. Simple Preposition (sim.prep)
    2. Compound Preposition (com.prep)
    3. Participial Preposition (par.prep)
    4. Phrase Preposition (phr.prep)

    VII. Conjunction

    Definition: Conjunction are the word that join to together the parts and the divisions of the sentence. There are four kinds of Conjunction.

    1. Correlative Conjunction (cor.con)
    2. Compound Conjunction (com.con)
    3. Coordinating Conjunction (coo.con)
    4. Subordinating Conjunction (sub.con)

    VIII. Interjection

    Definition: Interjection is used to show some sudden feeling causing exclamation. There are two kinds of Interjection.
